Common Sense Safety - live Longer
Tires - Take the time to inspect the sidewalls for cracks and the tread for serious wear. Tire pressure is extremely important on a bike. The biggest problem is when a bike tire ha low pressure you can not tell visibly like on a car. I've seen bike tires with 10 lbs and they look normal. With low tire pressure in a corner a tire can roll off the rim. Never look at a tire on a bike and say; "tire pressure is ok". Check your tire pressure every week. There's a reason the have a label on the frame for tire pressures.
Lights - Inspect all lights every time before you ride.
Fluids - check all fluids before you ride.
Bolts/Fasteners/Nuts - do a walk around every time you ride - after a few times you will memorize the threads showing on a fasteners.
Drive Belts/Chains - Inspect belts and chains before you ride. Grab the belt or chain in the middle and check to see how much up/down play there is, your manual will tell you.
Brake/Clutch levers - make your they are snug, move smoothly, and have a small amount of free play, see your manual.
Seat - grab the seat and rock it up and down and sideways making sure its tight.
Battery - Listen when your turning the engine over, any slowing down or change in speed of the starter means trouble. Periodically check the battery connections for tightness. Clean connections.
Drive defensively - watch every car, assume nothing. They don't see you but you see them.
